These popular horticultural extravaganzas feature hundreds of vendors offering great bargains on gardening essentials, including vibrant perennials and colorful annuals, distinctive hanging baskets and potted plants, wide assortments of succulents, herbs, and vegetables, along with unique outdoor art, decorations and accessories.
Master Gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County will be on hand to provide expert gardening advice for novice and veteran gardeners alike. Traditional Market vendors will also be present in the B shed, along with the small businesses throughout the Market District.
Flower City Days at the Market hosts a give and take container exchange outside the Market Office, where gardeners are welcome to donate or retrieve gently used flower or plant pots, flats, and other containers.
The City of Rochester is also proud to unveil the inaugural feature artist for the Flower City Days at the Market poster. Each year, the Friends of the Public Market will spotlight a different local artist’s work for the Flower City Days poster.
This year’s featured artist is Julian Plum, an illustrator and author with a deep love of colors, stories, and creatures. Based in the Finger Lakes, Julian creates warm, richly detailed gouache paintings of flora, fauna, and fungi inspired by their love of nature.
“As a kid I spent my time in the forest, running barefoot through streams and picking berries off bushes to eat. That fascination with the natural world – the textures, the colors, the connections – is the soil nourishing all of my work,” Julian shares. “Everything I paint is intensely studied and researched down to the last tiny hidden detail.”
The new Flower City Days at the Market posters will be available for purchase at Market Shed A and are priced $5 each. For each poster sold, $4 will go towards the Friends of the Public Market, contributing to the Market Token Program for SNAP recipients. $1 will go to the artist.
Additionally, the International Plaza community marketplace, 828 N. Clinton Ave., will host a special Mother’s Day Market Day celebration, 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 11. With music, food and merchandise vendors, this event will honor and celebrate the amazing mothers in our lives and in our community. This free-admission event will feature live performances by local Latin favorite La Krema, and shopping options from a diverse array of vendors. Celebrate your mamá with us in the heart of Rochester!
